Since being the first team to join the league, the Essendon Bombers have won 63 premierships in 101 years, including this season.  As you know, some of the greatest players include Matthew Lloyd, James Hird, Dustin Fletcher and the tremendous Gary Moorcroft and this page will show tribute to these players and their Bomber ancestors and idols.

It may be well known that the Bombers are one of the original four teams in the AFL but what is lesser known is who the first 18 actually were.  The first Bomber ever to kick a goal was Bill Coventry, father of Syd and Gordon, two of the greatest players ever who unfortunately never lived up to their father's example.  The first player to have a free kick awarded to him was Phillip Hird, grandfather of the now-famous James.  Phil's first game was also his last, as he had severe hamstring problems.  The man who invented the ruck position was Joseph Misiti Sr., league leader in handballs although little else is known about him.  One of the bench players in the Bomber's first season was Geoff Presley, cousin of the famous Elvis.  Geoff provided the pre-match entertainment on his sitar as he was born in East India.

From 1896 to today the Essendon Football Club has been the proud recipient of many awards, certificates and medals won by either single players, coaches or as a team.  Winning the majority of the Premiership Cups, Essendon has a 3-story building at Windy Hill just to store all of these achievements.  Although having many Brownlows and best player awards taken away dishonestly, the Bombers still have 94% of these particular medals.  The list of this seasons achievements by the Bombers' includes:
AFL Premiership
Ansett Cup Premiership
John Coleman (Matthew Lloyd)
Norm Smith (Matthew Lloyd)
Steven Silvagni (Dustin Fletcher)
Ted Whitten (James Hird)
And this is just some of them.  For a full list of awards and medals won by the Essendon Bombers please click here.
